The short answer is “to some extent”. However, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting has got tools to avoid re-traumatisation, and with PSYCH-K, the protocols we use always check if it is safe and appropriate for you to do anything in a treatment.
EFT usually works directly with memories and feelings (physical or emotional). However, there are several gentle techniques as part of EFT that are used particularly with traumatic experiences to ensure clients feel safe and comfortable, and can address things little by little, as required.
With Matrix Reimprinting, we would work directly with memories, but you essentially become empowered to be your own therapist, staying emotionally dissociated from the event you may be working on. So, whilst you would be revisiting a memory, you would not be re-experiencing the difficult emotions that may be associated with it.
In PSYCH-K, the process of shifting stress and trauma does involve sitting with your emotions, allowing your body to process them. Usually, it’s addressing things that you experience to some extent regularly anyway, so it is usually a case of experiencing it more fully for a moment, to allow it to go forever. However, as noted above, we would only be able to do this if it is actually safe and appropriate for you to do so in that moment.
In a single treatment, any or all of these treatment modalities may be used; using the best tool(s) for the job. You are in control. You won’t be pushed to go somewhere you are not comfortable. You are supported and a safe space is held for you.
