Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Helping free you from the negative effects of trauma, emotions, thoughts or beliefs.

EFT is also commonly referred to as tapping, and has origins in Chinese Medicine (working with energy meridians and acupuncture points). As such, its origins are thousands of years old.

As the name implies, EFT works directly with emotions (e.g., shame, fear and anger). It does go wider than this, aiming to help free a person from the negative effects of trauma, emotions, thoughts or beliefs that can be causing a wide range of issues (e.g., fear, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain).

Potential Benefits of EFT

There are many conditions that could be helped by EFT when caused by emotional, cognitive (thoughts and beliefs) or energetic factors, e.g.,

  • Fears & phobias

  • Loss, grief & depression

  • Anger & frustration

  • Anxiety & panic attacks

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Addictions (e.g., to food)

  • Chronic pain

  • Suppressed emotions

  • … and more

EFT is Evidence Based

Contemporary neuroscience research and clinical trials shows that tapping literally changes our brain, our emotions and hormones, and DNA.

For more information about the scientific evidence for EFT, see websites of, e.g., Dr. Peta Stapleton and the EFT Universe.

EFT in a Nutshell

EFT is not talk therapy like counselling or psychotherapy. However, like humanistic counselling, EFT is client-led.

The aim of EFT is to identify key issues and emotions, perhaps associated with one or more memories. Then, while the client is tuned into this, gently tap* on a set of acupressure points to help the body process.

The therapist helps facilitate the process, helping the client arrive at self-acceptance*.

Treatment Details

An EFT treatment is one hour. We usually use it in combination with Matrix Reimprinting.

Prior to the first treatment, a thorough consultation is conducted, which is free of charge. The duration of this depends on your condition and medical history, but it generally takes about 30 minutes.

An EFT treatment starts with:

  • Discussing your issue(s) and relevant history.
  • Agree on what the focus and aims are.
  • Get subjective indications of how significant the issue/issues is/are.

Depending on the issue(s), the treatment may involve tapping on

  • General emotions that are felt.
  • Specific fears, phobias, addictions, pains, etc.
  • Aspects of specific memories (may involve lots of different emotions).

If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Remote Treatments

Remote treatments are possible with EFT, typically done via free, online, video conferencing such as Zoom. This does not limit the potential gains you have from a treatment, and some prefer it.

If you are concerned about technology, rest assured that it is very straightforward and secure. From a client perspective, you can expect to receive a link to a Zoom meeting, which will open in your web browser. You may have a pop-up to install a plug-in, and clicking ‘yes’, it should be up and running momentarily.
